Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, and President of the UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA), the office opened today a workshop on ‘Managing Projects Remotely’.
Over the course of the three day event, representatives of UAE donor organizations will discuss the key factors that contribute to the successful management of projects in countries where they might not have full-time representatives. When operating remotely, through partner organizations and contractors in-country, donors face a distinct set of challenges and opportunities.
Facilitated by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the workshop will be guided by questions and real-life scenarios faced by the participants. By exploring the elements of the project cycle that are distinctive to remote management, participants will develop a set of practical tools that can help them ensure predictable outcomes in their foreign aid projects.
Speaking at the event, H.E. Sultan Mohamed Al Shamsi, OCFA’s Executive Director, said, “Many UAE donor organizations find themselves in similar situations when they run projects in countries where they do not have full time members of staff. This workshop is an opportunity for them to reflect on past experiences and learn from each other on how best to overcome the challenges of remote management”.
Mrs Marliene Boueiz from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), said, “UAE donors have an impressive range of projects in a vast number of countries. GIZ is delighted to have the opportunity to work through some of the ways in which they can optimize their foreign aid activities by using a combination of management, communication, and contractual tools. We very much look forward to the outcomes of these discussions,”
“By taking a few simple steps when they select their partners, as well when they plan and monitor their activities, for example, donors can have a lot more certainty about what to expect on a projects’ completion,” Al Shamsi continued.
