Today’s meeting is part of a series of meetings FACO is holding with both local and international institutions to potentially forge strategic partnerships that will support the UAE federal office’s mission to provide relevant knowledge and expertise to UAE-based donor organizations.
FACO was represented by Hazza Mohammed Falah Al Qahtani, FACO Director General, who welcomed Barbara Stocking, Director-General, Oxfam GB, and Simon Springett, Regional Humanitarian Coordinator, OXFAM GB.
“Today’s meeting is an opportunity for both organizations to identify areas of cooperation in a number of areas including training, policy development and information management,” said Al Qahtani. “Establishing partnerships with institutions such as OXFAM GB is a fundamental part of FACO’s strategy to provide UAE-based donor organizations world-class knowledge and expertise that will build their capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian crises world-wide and enable the UAE to play a role in shaping the international humanitarian agenda.”
OXFAM GB, a part of OXFAM International, is a leading NGO registered in England, Wales and Scotland that is involved in aid and development work.
“By working closely with donor organizations such as OXFAM GB, we are also opening channels between global organizations and our partners in the UAE and helping the UAE build stronger relationships with other key donor countries,” added Al Qahtani.
A federal office, FACO was set up earlier this year under the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the guidance of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, to support and coordinate UAE-based donor organizations that provide assistance for humanitarian activities and emergency relief worldwide.
